Label Me Royalty was created by Emmanuel Brown, the Founder of Seeing Growth, on September 24th, 2009, to reach the minds of young people by supporting them in ways that allow them to see positive some of the examples that Black Men and Black Women are setting in our communities. This initiative intends to share positive influences through the stories of Black People that will help over-shadow the negative images that play a dominant role in what Black Americans are and should strive to be. I Am Royalty: Profiles In Black History is a project that was created to help benefit this program by being portable examples of positivity, progress, unification and collaboration that promote literacy.
Through the I Am Royalty: Profiles In Black History anthologies, we have combine the stories of over 30 Black Men and Women in one place to speak as a unified voice that is saying that there are opportunities for our people. We are also showing that the support of positive things can create progressive results. I Am Royalty: Profiles In Black History is not attempting to ignore the ills that plague our society; we are simply putting emphasis on the successful parts of it and the positive parts of the people that make up our communities.
We began putting together these stories on the Internet in 2010 and started publishing them to reach the young people that are not focused on computers (or book stores) in that same year, this is one of the main reasons that we are not very concerned with becoming a best seller or being the center of attention of some of the brick and mortar book stores. We are constantly working on the next publications by contacting people personally and asking them to share their voice for the sake of something positive.
These books are targeting schools, churches, correctional facilities or juvenile detention centers, group homes, youth groups, programs and our street corners. They are finding their way to these places and we are doing our best to make sure that they have a more visually powerful presence in these areas.
This is an important step for Black Men and Black Women to play a role that will create a model for the future. Black Men and Black Women hold the keys to open possibilities in our communities, so it is up to us to pass these keys to young people so that they can open doors that lead to their success instead of our destruction as a group of people. We cannot allow the doors of positive endeavors to remain locked while negative doors are being left open through our surroundings, the media, television, video games and music. Doors that lead to destruction will continue to remain open unless Black Men and Black Women provide essential keys to their children and their peers to the doors that lead to possibilities that cannot be measured. We cannot continue to allow young people to be raised by the powerfully destructive influences that have influenced some young people to literally become major contributors to the ills of society. It is the duty of Black Men and Black Women to groom young people for the royal futures that they deserve and have the right to claim, but we cannot properly prepare young people when we are not sharing the proper visions with them. Young people are our future leaders so we have to give them more clues that lead to productive paths.
We need the help of as many Black Men and Women as possible. Please help us by sharing your story, spreading the word, taking the results of this joint effort directly to the young people that you come in contact with, show your support and become a partner if possible.
